REFELECTION REPORT

INDUSTRY VISIT: SFD Drafting Solutions Process Outsourcing Inc.

       I.          DETAILS OF THE EVENT/ACTIVITY

On April 30, our group visited SFD Drafting Solutions Process Outsourcing Inc., located at 2749 Rizal Avenue, West Bajac-Bajac, Olongapo City, as part of our industry exposure and learning experience. SFD Drafting Solutions is a company that sources steel detailing projects from Australia and specializes in creating detailed 3D models for steel fabricators and erectors. These models include components such as columns, beams, trusses, stairs, and metal decking.

T     he company uses various tools and software including AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Microsoft Office, supported by high-performance equipment like laser printers, NAS storage, i5 computers, and Dropbox for file sharing. They operate under a strict “No Cellphone” policy during work hours, but they allow employees to take short naps and eat during breaks. Employees wear black uniforms.

Their workflow involves the following steps:

·        Sourcing of projects from clients (primarily in Australia)

·        Cost estimation for each project

·        Client approval and setting of deadlines

·        3D modeling of structural plans

·        Reporting and documentation

SFD’s working hours are from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM. During our visit, we were expected to observe and understand parts of the process, particularly steps 1 (Sourcing Projects), 2 (Cost Estimation), and 6 (General Workplace Observation and Culture), as some other aspects were not practiced during our scheduled time.

The visit was scheduled for 8:30 AM, and we were informed in advance of what to expect to ensure we would have a meaningful and focused experience during our time at the company.

II.          REFELECTIONS ON THE WEBINAR/ACTIVITY GIVE RISE TO (LEARNINGS)

Through our visit to SFD Drafting Solutions, I realized the importance of teamwork in a professional setting. Even if some members are new or not from an IT background, they can still contribute effectively and learn quickly with proper guidance. It was inspiring to see how the company values collaboration and support among team members to ensure the success of their projects.

I also learned that their work is highly technical and precise. Since they design structural components like beams and columns used in buildings and homes, there is no room for error—accuracy and attention to detail are essential. It gave me a deeper appreciation for the complexity and responsibility involved in their job.

What impressed me the most was how the company started with only a few people and grew into a larger team, even expanding to international clients. The use of advanced 3D modeling tools makes their output very impressive, and I found it amazing how they can create such detailed and professional designs. Overall, it was an eye-opening experience that taught me the value of continuous learning, teamwork, and striving for excellence in any field.

III.          REFLECTIONS ON POSSIBILITIES ON IMPLEMENTING SOME OF THE WEBINAR INPUT ON A PRACTICAL LEVEL (PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF LEARNINGS)

Our visit to SFD Drafting Solutions helped me realize how the skills and concepts we learn in school can be directly applied in the workplace. For example, their use of software like AutoCAD and Microsoft Office shows the importance of mastering industry tools early on. It motivated me to further improve my technical skills, especially in 3D modeling and documentation.

I also saw the importance of clear communication, proper documentation, and meeting deadlines—things that are critical in real-world projects. Applying these habits while we’re still students will prepare us better for actual work environments.

Another practical insight I gained was the significance of adaptability. Since the company hires people who may not have an IT background but are willing to learn, it shows that a strong willingness to grow and be trained can open many opportunities. This encourages me to stay open-minded and flexible, especially when facing tasks outside my comfort zone.

Overall, the experience gave me a clearer picture of how to apply what we learn in class to real industry standards, and how being responsible, collaborative, and continuously learning are essential for career success.

   IV.          POSITIVE FEEDBACKS

For me, the company is really admirable because it gives opportunities even to those with minimal experience. Even someone starting with a basic role like carrying materials or handling simple tasks can grow and eventually be trained for more technical work. This shows that the company values dedication and potential over just background or credentials.

It's also impressive how the company started small and gradually expanded, even having employees based abroad. Their work environment seems supportive, and they encourage learning and teamwork. Overall, it's inspiring to see how they empower their employees and how committed they are to quality and growth.

     V.          SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE/CONSIDER FOR FUTURE ACTIVITIES

I suggest that there be more interactive or hands-on sessions during the visit so that students can experience some of the tools or software being used, such as AutoCAD or 3D modeling platforms. This would help us understand the workflow better and feel more engaged.

It would also be helpful if there were more time for Q&A, so students could ask in-depth questions about the company’s processes, challenges, and career opportunities. Additionally, providing printed or digital materials summarizing the company profile, tools, and job roles would help us review and reflect after the activity.

Lastly, organizing visits to a variety of tech-related companies would allow us to explore different career paths and broaden our understanding of the IT and tech industry
